Randy’s Voice Quilt – Creating an Oral History of Randy’s Life

Hi Everyone,

Something we all share is amazing memories of Randy.

We would like try to capture these memories and stories with a voice quilt: http://voicequilt.com/

A voice quilt records the oral history of someone’s life. This is an amazing opportunity to record stories and memories of Randy for us all to share.

Ultimately we can create an MP3 of these memories to share with everyone that I will post on this blog for people to download in the future.

Leaving a message on a VoiceQuilt is easy – just follow these steps:

– Memories of things Randy said

– Your nicknames for Randy

– A ramblin randle rap

– Perform a song

– Play your favorite movie quote

I know so many of you have so many Randy stories.

Please feel free to leave more then 1 message to tell lots of stories. Just be comfortable with them being ultimately shared on this blog and with his family and friends.

Randy’s voice quilt is valid from today until March 31, 2012.

Speaking of voices, Randy’s favorite local hip hop artist Rebecca Dawn (who you might know from his facebook photo) dedicated a song to him at her performance last night. This means to much to our family and I know Randy would be so honoured.

This is a clip of Rebecca performing that was the last post Randy made on his facebook wall with the comment: “This is short documentary about a local hip-hop group in Calgary that I’m friends with. Check’em out.”

This is a video of ContraVerse performing Alienation at the concert Randy and I attended at the Marquee Room in 2011:

Randy the skier & Rick Hansen

Hi Everyone,

As you may know Rick Hansen is currently completing his 25th Anniversary of his Man in Motion Tour across Canada. http://www.rickhansen.com/

For those of you not familiar with Rick Hansen, he wheeled through 34 countries in 26 months to complete his now-famous Man In Motion World Tour 25 years ago.

Rick was a special inspiration to Randy and when he visited Calgary in 2002 Randy got to meet Rick and wheel around with him a bit.

As a family we have actually participated in the 5km version of the Rick Hansen Man in Motion relay. My favorite memory of the relay was in the Rotary Challenger Park in Calgary where there is a hill on the course. When Randy was wheeling up the hill I patiently stuck by him and cheered for him while he worked up the hill and then once he got to the top he wheeled down without any arms and just laughed at me while he without any effort wheeled waaay ahead and I had to chase after him.

Here are some pictures from 2002.

Today Mike Seifert a friend of Randy’s is participating in the Calgary version of the relay and will be sending good vibes out to Randy in the universe.

Mike and his wife Carolyn were actually who got Randy into downhill skiing. The introduced the sport to him as well as coached and taught him how to ski. I remember hanging out at Canada Olympic Park as a kid on Friday nights during disabled skiing. I was always in awe at all of the athletes as it is really inspiring to watch them ski. Here is a photo of Mike and Randy (age 10) in 1997 and of Randy on his fancy ski.

Allison

Video Collecting

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for sending in all of your favorite Randy photos! Please keep them coming.

Now we are also looking for videos of Randy.

Do you have videos of Randy?

Randy playing guitar? Randy rambling? Randy dancing? Randy at halloween? Randy singing?

Even if it’s a 10 second clip from your phone which you filmed late at night at an awkward angle – our family would love to see it. 🙂

If you have any videos that you are comfortable sharing we would love to see them.

I can work with you to upload them through my vimeo account.

Please just pop me an email at allisonlmoore@gmail.com

And for your vimeo video watching pleasure this is Randy in London in 2006 at the Queen’s Birthday Parade Rehearsal.

In my defense Prince William was the cuter one in 2006.

Photo Collecting (Part 1)

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so much for all of your love and support.

We would like to now start the photo collection process.

1) Favorite Randy Photos

First we would like you to email to us photos that are your favorite Randy photos. These will be considered to be included in the collection of Comrade Randy Propaganda we are producing for the Calgary & Victoria Celebrations. (video, photo montages, program, etc)

If possible please title each photo with your name & a brief photo description & (if you know) YEAR.

If this is not possible due to time please just email us the photos with this information in the email subject.

Example: AllisonMoore.KingKhanConcert.2009.jpg

Email address: rememberingrandymoore@gmail.com

2) All of your Randy Photos

Second we would like you (when you have a moment since this isn’t urgent) to collect all of your Randy photos that you would like to share into a file for us to add to our family’s collection.

Depending on the size we have lots of options for this:

Mailing us a USB of photos, bringing a USB of photos to a memorial, mailing us a CD or DVD…etc

If you would like to chat with me about what works since some of you have a large Randy photo collection please email me at allisonlmoore@gmail.com

And for your Saturday night youtube watching pleasure this is King Khan & the Shrines singing one of Randy and my favorite songs – No Regrets. Everytime we heard the song No Regrets we would sing (probably yelling) it as loud as we could.

Randy and I saw King Khan perform in Calgary twice in 2009. He was always super kind to us as we lurked at the side of the stage in our make shift disabled section of the mosh pit. He would pose for photos, smile at us during the show and stop to give Randy a high five or head nod. I was super surprised later in 2009 when I saw a King Khan show without Randy and that he still recognized me (as Randy’s sister of course) and shared some of his gold face paint with me. I have included some photos below.

Love,

Allison

Are you planning on attending Randy’s Calgary Life Celebration?

Hi Everyone,

We are trying to determine the size of venue we need for Randy’s Memorial & Reception in Calgary.

How you can help us with this is by commenting on this post (not by email or text or call) with a number : 1,2,3,4,5, etc (not a message or names).

This way I can enlist the help of one of my helpers to count all of the numbers and we can start to predict if we need a venue for 0-250, 250-500, 500-750 or 750-1000 or the Saddledome.

I know some people don’t want their names and emails publicly distributed. Please note I will not be using these emails for anything.

If you would like to keep your name private (or want to have some fun with this) I recommend that you post the name of your favorite Dictator.

Randy would like that as he loves Dictators and was going to write his Masters Thesis on Negotiating with Dictators and would want them all to attend.

Love,

Allison

Life Celebrations Update

Hi Everyone,

We visited the funeral home today. I kept looking for someone who looked like Michael Hall (Six Feet Under & Dexter), since I know Randy would have loved that but he was nowhere to be found.

We greatly appreciate that there are so many of you who want to help out, participate and attend Randy’s life celebrations. As we confirm details we will keep you informed about all of these options as far in advance as possible so that you can plan accordingly.

So far we have decided that first we will have a service & reception in Calgary. This will not be in the next week. When we know when it is we will let you all know as soon as possible.

Afterwards, potentially weeks later, we will have an amazing celebration in Victoria.

Love,

Allison

An Amazing Video of Randy

Hi Everyone,

Last night I thought it was amazing that in the 10 days we have had this blog that it had surpassed 10,000 views.

Incredibly though since this morning this blog has been viewed over 5,000 times  – just today.

Thank you so much for all of your love and support.

In the last 24 hours I have found comfort in this amazing video of Randy and I at the Eric Clapton in Concert at the Hampton Court Palace Festival in 2006.

I would like to share the story and video with you in hopes of it providing you with comfort.

In 2006 Randy and I travelled Europe. One of his big highlights was when we got the last 2 tickets to see Eric Clapton at the Hampton Court Palace Festival.

We didn’t however get wheelchair seats so Randy worked with Linette in preparation for the big walk up the bleachers to our seats at the top in the back.

The train enroute was also not accessible so when we got on and off the train I had to get 2 guys to carry Randy back and forth for me.

Once we got to the palace we walked through the courtyard and I realized I was not dressed up enough which is why I look somewhat panicked in the video and pulled out a scarf to dress up my lululemon apparel.

Then Chef Gordon Ramsey casually walked by Randy and asked him how he was doing and shook his hand. At the time I had no idea who this was and Randy made so much fun of me for it but for Randy this was the most amazing moment.

Randy then wheeled up to the bottom of the bleachers to get ready to walk up to our seats – at this moment – he looked at me and said sorry, smirked and smiled.

He then proceeded to get out of his chair and put on his crutches and act like he was weak and frail and that this task to get up the bleachers was incredibly difficult. He put on an amazing act. Within a minute someone rushed up and asked us why on earth we were trying to get up the bleachers and Randy told this elaborate story about how we had come all the way out from Canada but didn’t get a disabled seat so he needed to walk up to the top.

This staff person immediately then brought over her manager. This manager ironically was from Red Deer which is a city north of Calgary! He then proceeded to look into all that he could to get us accessible seats.

In the end he actually moved other people’s seats to ‘expand’ us into our own little impromptu disabled section. Randy (still acting) slowly wheeled over in his chair over to his fancy new seat upgrade, thanked the manager and then filmed this amazing video.

Randy has a part of the concert also posted on his YouTube here:

Also he has an album of these photos called ‘Eric Clapton Concert’ with hilarious descriptions on his Facebook.

Randy (Randall) Alexander Adrian Moore

Randy (Randall) Alexander Adrian Moore

January 11, 1987 – February 15, 2012

Randy (Randall) Alexander Adrian Moore peacefully rambled onward this morning.

Randy wheeled into our lives and changed us all for the better.

Randy was one-of-a-kind, and never forgotten once he first touched your heart.

His character and strength will leave a lasting impression on all of us.

Randy has always placed a positive spin on all circumstances, known no boundaries or limitations and lifted the spirits of those around him.

He touched and inspired us all to live life as he did – to the fullest.

We will never forget the memories that we shared with Randy.

Our family would like to thank all of you for all of your love and support.

Randy has an amazing ability to bring people together.

We have been truly touched by the community of Randy’s friends, family, and the medical team here in Victoria that surrounded us with love, courage, strength and faith.

There is probably enough of us to start our own country, form a government, join the U.N. and have Randy as our dictator.

We will use this blog to communicate the details of future celebrations of Randy’s life.

Love,

Allison
